frankly I blame Clarissa

because of her fulsome review, well and the friends we visited this weekend, oh yes and Target and the  book I could get for 4 without having to wait for it to be mailed, and my library lending eBooks which I've been reading on my macbook, so  I am now the proud owner of a probably redundant and completely unnecessary Kindle Fire.

fMhson, who had a hell of a day apparently, is chilling out upstairs downloading apps like no one's business, including yes Texas hold 'em and something called Tank Wars.  You know what, though, I'm not screaming, and kids aren't fighting, so if he's prepping to plan the next Battle of the Bulge, I can deal.

The Kindle, which can now be procured in less than 5 minutes at your local Target for less than $200 (you get the 5% off if you use your Target card too!), is a good compromise between the laptop they'd each like and having him destroy my iPhone. True there aren't as many apps as there are for iPhone which is kind of a drag, particularly as free Hulu and my cable app don't work, and that means either Youtube, which can be scary for the kids, or buying Amazon prime to watch what in the "kids and family" section of TV are a lot of really decent PBS shows, but not a lot else of interest to older kids.    fMhgirl will be happy if I find a youtube playlist of My Little Pony episodes (Ok I have to admit the 21st iteration is not as crap as the original).

We have a Kindle Fire, too, and I think it is the perfect device for kids- enough things to make it fun, but no so expensive that my heart is in my throat the entire time they are using it. Mine are much younger than yours, so mostly they get to use it under my supervision. I think it will be an excellent travel accessory, too- entertaining kids when we have to wait for a table or what not.

Get your son the Slice It app. I'll bet he will rock at it. The early levels were easy enough for my 4.5 year old, but the adults find it fun and challenging, too!

Oh, I'm so happy to hear that you are one of us, Kindlers, now! And to think that I had some influence in the matter of converting you to our religion. :-) :-)

Enjoy your Kindle and give my love to your Kindle-loving family!!!

Hooray! Will confess that I've been thinking about the KFire as a potential birthday wish list item...will be eager to hear how you like it.

ps: Foolscap ROCKS. I laughed out loud three times yesterday while reading. And not just chuckles but actual HA HAs.

I've finally actually seen one and it is attractive - more than the Ipad, I think. I was suprised, as I'd have said my netbook was plenty.

Wrote a long comment that must have gone poof. Short version: Yay for Kindles! I love my 3rd generation E-ink version (upgrading from the 2nd a while back and gave the old one to Hubby).

so far so good. No one has dropped it, but they are fighting over it. I couldn't connect on campus though, which peeved me!
